Singularity

Singularity in Asher's stories refers to the "Technological singularity" in which all AI and human intelligences are merged in to a single entity. In the Gridlinked series, it is referered to as "long overdue." The trade-off for the benefits of such a merger are of course loss of independence. The closest anyone comes is Erebus in which even those who have joined willingly find the experience not all it was cracked up to be. And of course, every Erebus has his Fiddler Randal.
